My first encounter with a loft bed was a memorable experience. I was staying with a friend in her college dorm room for the weekend. She and her roommate had recently painted hundreds of glow-in-the-dark stars on their ceiling and with the lights off, it gave the illusion that we were sleeping under the night sky. My friend was generous enough to allow me to sleep on the loft bed for one night, and so I enthusiastically agreed, feeling like a little kid again as I both conquered my fear of heights and slept up "near the stars."

Since then I have often considered the versatility of loft beds, whether in a home or in a dorm room, they are a great way to add space in any room. Many dressers, computer desks, futon lofts, Downtown and entertainment centers can be easily positioned under the loft, out-of-the-way of traffic.

Los Angeles Or LA - Recently my own children discovered the joys of their loft when we converted their loft bed into an "L-shaped" setup, which is now a single bed underneath and perpendicular to the loft. They now have a small table for game playing in their make-shift fort or "hide out" underneath their loft. My two boys have glow-in-the-dark stars affixed to their ceiling, reminding me of how my friend's ceiling used to look. Now my children can experience the feeling of "camping out" under the stars with the bedroom light turned off, the stars softly glowing above. Now, just add a tent or a hammock underneath the loft and some cricket-chirping sound effects for a simulated outdoor adventure, no matter what the weather!

For Sale Or Buy - Some bunk beds and loft-loft beds come complete with a built-in slide accessory that can be used as an express exit ramp to ground level, making it a quick, fun and convenient way to get out of bed quickly. However, parents must be warned that the Consumer Product Safety Commission advised that children under the age of six should not sleep on a loft or top bunk bed. The C.P.S.C. also warns against horseplay of any kind. Please follow the safety guidelines included with your loft bed.

There is another practical reason for owning a loft bed. If you're a dog-lover but not fond of having dirty paw prints on your sheets and pillow case, as well as a soggy chew toy under your pillow, a loft bed will discourage man's best friend from leaving a lasting impression. If you also own a cat, your favorite feline can find your loft bed a safe-haven from the pet dog as well.

In summary, a loft bed can serve many purposes, for "camping", storage, safe-havens, space-saving advantages, and of course, for sleeping. Sweet dreams to all, and reach for the stars!
