Wall Tiles - It wasn't that long ago that the choice of tiles was quite limited, now the choice is endless and we can pick tiles from any era too. Beautiful Victorian style tiles are still being produced or at the other end of the spectrum you can find space age chrome finished tiles to go with your chrome kitchen fixings. Italy is still leading the way with their modern techniques and pushing the boundaries of tile production and design, tile design and manufacture really is something to get excited about. Tile sizes are varied from small mosaics through to large tiles nearly a metre high. Larger the better as less grout to keep clean is always a bonus. Larger tiles when laid sympathetically make small rooms look bigger.

Floor Tiles and Rugs.

As well as the development of wall tiles, floor tiles are now equally as advanced and due to the fact that house insulation has improved so much people are turning to cheap and efficient underfloor heating (just as the Romans did) to add a sense of luxury to any home. Floor tiles do not stain or mark easily and are the most long lasting floor covering you can choose. The one criticism of using floor tiles instead of using carpet it the lack of cosiness, this is simply addressed with a few rugs scattered around the house. Rugs can be changed with your decor leaving the tiled floor as a backdrop to any colour scheme.

Choice of Supplier

Floor Tiles - Choosing your tiles can be a daunting task and unfortunately simply looking at tile shops' websites does not really help. Tiles are not just about colour, they are about texture and shade and proportion, only really appreciable if you see the tiles in person. Generally independent shops are more experienced, the staff are highly trained and can give you both technical and design advice. The smaller shops are often family run and want you to be happy so you come back and recommend your friends. With lower overheads prices are usually lower.
