The beauty of these designs arrives due to these blank spaces which highlight the bold designs. Arabic designs are popularly applied for festivals and functions.

Bold Arabic figures are first drawn and the inside space is filled with elaborate Indian designs. These hybrid designs are extremely eye catchy and different. More and more people prefer these designs now given that they look chic, yet ethnic and traditional.
Culturally, application of mehndi is very significant. Aside from being very appealing visually, the herb has strong medicinal properties. Being strongly antiseptic anyway, mehndi protects against infections. This is the reason why mehndi is applied around the palms and feet of brides as well as grooms. In Andhra Pradesh, it is a custom to use mehndi at least three times during the hindu month of Shravan, which coincides with the rainy season. Since water borne infections are high during this season, menhdi provides a shield. Fresh foliage is ground and the paste is applied on palms and feet for males and ladies, adults and kids.
