My inspiration for your post origins in a recent Podcast from the SoLoMo Show, hosted by Cory O'Brien and Adam Helweh. For me, by far the very best Podcast for Social internet marketing. It covers current developments around social, local and mobile marketing and gives excellent strategies for hot online tools. It is advisable for every internet marketer, so check it out.

Adam and Cory were discussing this is of a Facebook Like based on a recent case, where a deputy got fired while he liked the Facebook page of the opposition. The whole conversation went within the direction whether or not Social networking should be thought about free speech. I don't want to dive too deep within the topic but follow the thoughts. I asked myself which meaning a Facebook Like has personally. Which emotions, feelings and expressions will i connect with a click the famous button?

Facebook's statement about the Like Button

What's the Like feature?

"Like is a way to give positive feedback in order to interact with stuff you care about off or on of Facebook. You can like content that your friends post to provide them feedback or just like a Page that you want for connecting with on Facebook" What does it mean to "Like" something? "Clicking Like under something you or a friend posts on Facebook is a straightforward way to let someone know that you like it, without leaving a comment."

Exactly what does it mean to Like a Page or content from Facebook?

"When clicking Like on a Facebook Page, within an advertisement, or on content, you're making a connection. A story about your like can look in your Wall (timeline) and may also come in your news feed. You might be displayed on the Page you attached to, in advertisements about this Page, or in social plugins next to the content you like... Facebook Pages you want may post updates to your news feed or send you messages. Your link with the page may also be distributed to apps on the Facebook Platform."

The official Facebook statement regarding their button is really as rational as expected. The takeaway is the fact that Liking something is really a sort of positive feedback for stuff you care about. Clicking the Like Button shows that you like a post without commenting it. Extremely important is the point that the Like appears not only on your own timeline and in the news feed but can also be distributed to third-party apps. A Like is not restricted to your personal Facebook community and may travel quite a long distance. Therefore, you shouldn't underestimate the impact of a quick Like.

When would you click on the Facebook Like Button?

There are different motives for clicking the small Button on a mouse or touchpad. Since the Facebook language changed form "Become a Fan" to "Like", it could simply imply that you want to follow a brand or perhaps a page to get the latest updates. Pages often give discounts or further insights after you liked their page. Maybe you are a real fan from the organization, maybe it's hip to follow them or even the action is just based on give-aways through the page you want. Clicking so on button for any brand is really a form of self-expression or public endorsement - just a few individual interpretation.

From pages, a Like may imply that you endorse a standing, statement, image or comment. It does not necessarily mean that you actually like the posted content, however, you agree with it. Basically, it is a quick and casual method to express approval and show your sympathy. For instance, liking a standing "your friend went from being in a relationship into as being a single" expresses probably your concern instead of liking the separate (at least generally).

A study from ExactTarget reveals interesting findings concerning the concept of a Facebook Like to users. They conclude that the Like is ambiguous and may have subtle variations in and therefore are highly dependent on context and the individual user. The research states that the Like is light-hearted, casual and fun and no commitment to anything.

"I like it, but in a different Way"

Gurus some of my buddies what they think when clicking the Facebook Like button. I got different answers. Some act intuitive simply because they enjoy a webpage or a post, others wish to show support to have an action or share interests using their friends. My personal use of the button is rather limited. I follow some brands because I truly appreciate what they're doing and that i want to keep up with their latest news. I love images and posts of friends during my network to express that I enjoy the contributions. In my perception, Facebook continues to be a social networking, that is intended to be entertaining and let's connect which one another. Meaning that I don't put an excessive amount of weight in a Like and just view it like a tool to share my interests with other people.

When it comes to pages, brands or organizations, the perception of the Like Button changes. Everyone should be aware that an informal click includes a future impact and stay inside Facebook. Still, brands shouldn't overstate Likes since it can have completely different motivations and suggest people offer the page or become brand advocates. There is definitely a requirement for any legal framework with regards to shares, likes and tweets later on.

Interpreting a Like can probably end in a discussion that can last for hours. Finally, this will depend a lot around the content that was liked and also the person, who liked it. I am very thinking about your opinion. Exactly what do you express with a Facebook Like? How do you make use of the small button? I thank you for comments and, obviously, a Like for this Post...
