After decades of secrecy, Apple is spilling some good info about who makes components on their behalf. A few of the companies named for almost all what's designed for Apple: Intel Corp., Broadcom Corp., Amphenol Corp. and Sanyo Electric Co. Why is this important or not essential for you? Before we go there, what's Apple really told the world - probably not enough detailed information online.

What's OEM?

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. In the case of the repair of the ipad, that would be the company that made the glass (for example) for the ipad to begin with.

Just because Apple named some names, the sport still remains.

China includes a population about four times the USA. Understandably, you will find manufacturers everywhere in that population. Intel Corporation (for example) generally is one of Apple's suppliers, but the bigger real question is, who are Intel's subcontractors in China? It could be a very long list.

Additionally: China is known for making good copies and bad copies of nearly everything. Quite simply, should you hold a replacement glass for that ipad inside your hand, and contains the Apple logo onto it, you've got no way about this earth of knowing if it's OEM or otherwise. All you are able know is - does it fit properly and work properly?

Is it vital that you use OEM parts?

You might have seen the insurance company ads. Usually, it is an ad by an insurance company suggesting they are being used simply because they insist your car be repaired using only OEM and not "after market" parts. They might show you a car repaired with a of poor quality after market fender, and also the same model repaired using the correctly fitting OEM fender. Why do edge in the game?

The insurance company wants you to definitely think that they've superior standards, and therefore it's worth paying their superior premiums.

What else could you do if you can't tell if a component is OEM?

If you have your Apple device repaired by Apple, the parts will be OEM. If you have your Apple device repaired by an independent Apple device repair shop, they will not determine if exactly what the parts they use are OEM. They may tell you they are OEM. They might believe they're OEM, but there is not a way on their behalf or else you to understand for sure.

Here's what to do:

As in anything, you will find good, great and so-so iPhone, ipad and iPod repair shops. The great independent shops use parts which fit well and work nicely. Those self same shops offer a real warranty that covers parts and labor.

Your work would be to let them know (before they focus on your ipad) that you expect a component which fits perfectly, and operates perfectly - up towards the standard from the original.

WARNING:

Have a few minutes while deciding where to have your iPhone, ipad or iPod fixed, to go to the review websites, and find out if you can check out the repair center you're considering using.
