A press release is a written announcement addressed to the media. Its main goal is to increase understanding of a particular event or announcement. Whenever a press release's contents are newsworthy, newspapers, magazines, and other forms of media spread this news for others to see it and also to learn about it.

An announcement is sent to all companies of forms of media to inform them about something that is newsworthy. The data inside it will be published or broadcasted for anyone to understand.

Press releases are occasionally called free advertisements because it doesn't cost any money at all since it counts as the newspaper or perhaps a TV station's own content.

Ivy Lee was the very first person to create the first real press announcements. His agency worked with the Pennsylvania Railroad around the time of the 1906 Atlantic City Train wreck. He sent letters towards the media and arranged for them to come and go to the site of the wreck as a way of open communication using the press.

2. Dateline- this part contains if this was delivered to the media. It also usually contains which city the notice originated in. If it gets to the media following the date specified, it is considered as news embargo which will make journalists no more obligated to honor it.

3. Introduction- the introduction contains the solutions to the questions who, what, when, where, and why.

4. Body- your body explains the facts of the news bulletin. It explains its background all you need to know about it.

5. Boilerplate- this part gives a short background around the company issuing the statement.

6. Close- this part ends the pr release. -30-, ###, and 'ends' are the usual symbols being used to end it.

7. Media contact information- this shows the public relations professional's contact information like telephone number, office address, phone number, and current email address.

When sending an announcement, it must be pleasing towards the eyes and it must grab the attention of the media so that you can obtain the free publication you would like.
